The Großhennersdorf fools have been an integral part of local cultural life since 1981. The club was founded by the then Großhennersdorf village club, the former cultural center. The subsequent history was marked by upheavals, which also paved the way for new and sometimes unusual ideas. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, when their home was closed, the carnivalists re-established themselves and promptly moved into the community facility. Until the GKC, once again homeless, ventured onto the stage of the Großhennersdorf community center in 2007.
Once there, we began to supplement our stage plays with professionally filmed video clips. Traditional "swaying events" became a family-friendly stage carnival with a cabaret character. The recipe for success: an entertaining mix of film scenes, cabaret, dance and music for carnival and culture fans of all ages. The program is indispensable for residents and veterans, almost forgotten places and stories from Großhennersdorf and the surrounding area. The two main characters, Linna and Paul, led the way through all these years. The idiosyncratic but lovable couple traveled from the Orient, through fairytale land to the sanatorium and from there to the Wild West, to Egypt and to Russia. Until they discovered the stuff that films are made of. Since then, the fools around Linna and Paul have presented carnival versions of the Rocky Horror Show, from the Dance of the Vampires, the Olsen Gang and the famous GDR film series “Spooky Under the Ferris Wheel” to the famous Rühmann classic “Die Feuerzangenbowle”. The cinematic touch will continue in the future...
The club is supported by the Herrnhut community, the Hillersche Villa and the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater in Zittau, among others. The majority of the club members come from Großhennersdorf, of course, but people from Ruppersdorf, Berthelsdorf, Oderwitz and Zittau also provide support and contribute fresh ideas. The club's pride and joy is the Funkengarde, which has now grown to 16 girls aged 10-18.
The GKC is open to anyone who wants to get involved and is happy to collaborate with other clubs and cultural institutions.
